Additional information concerning the real properties of the “Body of Christ” can be found in what the Body is said to be; using the terms the Apostles of Christ illustrated with.

The Body is the Flock of God –

It should be evident thus far, that not everyone who claims to be the “Body of Christ” can truly be, unless they exhibit the properties of these designations we have been studying. It is also true, that all of the designations and their individual properties all support and compliment the “Body of Christ” description completely.  This is true in this particular designation as well!

Jesus is the Chief Shepherd –

Peter, who was both an Apostle of Jesus Christ and an elder in a local “Body of Christ” would openly state the universal control of every one of the sheep by the Great Shepherd, note:

1 Peter 5:4 “and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.”

This once again establishes the only authority by which the body (flock) can receive its instruction.  Having been baptized into Christ (His body – Galatians 3:27); has created an intimacy by which the sheep know their Shepherd!

John 10:14 “I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.”

2 Timothy 2:19 “Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.””

Rhetorical questions:

Can the sheep follow the True Shepherd and then follow creeds, doctrines, and wisdom of men? 2 John 9

Why would anyone follow the True Shepherd and think He would defer His sheep to another? Read – John 10:7-15

Can the sheep hope to maintain the intimacy established in obedience to the Shepherd’s call, if they ignore His voice afterward? 1 John 1:6

Can anyone really claim to be one of the sheep, if they have never adhered to the voice of the True Shepherd? John 10:4-5

How can anyone think the religious chaos that exists today can be due to all following the One True Shepherd? Ephesians 4:4-6

Jesus purchased the flock of God with His own blood!

Acts 20:28 “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.”

Each local “Body of Christ” is a local flock; which, when fully under the Lord’s order, is under local Spirit qualified shepherds, who in turn only guide by the Great Shepherd’s rule!

1 Peter 5:1-4 “The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: 2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; 4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.”

These elders (local shepherds) are to tend ONLY the flock which is among them (the definition of local autonomy).  These shepherds are examples to the flock; not making law, but fully living and supporting the only doctrine which is to guide the flock (which is from the single voice of the True Shepherd). It is by the power of the truth, which originates from the True Shepherd, that these local shepherds protect the flock!

Titus 1:9 “holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.”

The unique difference between these local shepherds and hirelings is that they are volunteers.

1 Timothy 3:1 “This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work.”

The Body is the Pillar and Ground of the Truth –

1 Timothy 3:15 “but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.”

The Body of Christ makes known the many faceted wisdom of God in two ways:

First, by its existence through the great work of Christ!

Ephesians 3:10-11 “to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places, 11 according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord”

As weexist as members of the “Body of Christ”, we exhibit God’s eternal purpose in Christ to the world! Note: to those who falsely claim that the Lord failed to establish His kingdom or that the church is not synonymous; this “Body of Christ” was in fact God’s eternal plan and purpose for Christ Jesus our Lord!!!

Second, as we establish ourselves in the good works we were created for; made known through the word and teach no other doctrine, we make known the truth without hypocrisy to the world.

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

1 Timothy 1:3 “As I urged you when I went into Macedonia—remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine”

2 Timothy 2:2 “And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

2 Timothy 4:2-5 “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”

Titus 2:1 “But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine”

1 John 2:3-6 “Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.”
