THE BODY OF CHRIST

THE ORDER OF THE BODY OF CHRIST – PART 1

AUTHORITY OF CHRIST JESUS–

God’s word in revelation to man is by design that which is purposeful, and enlightening. God has always, by His revelation, given purpose to men and order concerning that which He expects.

Examples of this order, detail, and enlightenment are some of the wonders of God’s revelation (the instructions to build the ark – Genesis 6:13-21; the tabernacle – Exodus 26, etc…).

This is no different for the Body of Christ! God has given the Body detailed purpose, order, and enlightenment!

The understanding of the need for specific authority and order can be seen in the denominational world today. The chaos in so-called Christianity in work, doctrine, and service is not the wisdom of God or the established authority He gave the Body of Christ.

In fact, it is the fulfillment of the primary law of entropy. This primary law states the inevitable and steady deterioration of a system without a specific order or system of authority.

The knowledge of this is why God has created order in all that He has provided for His special creation. This was the Apostle Paul’s understanding of our nature, when he described it for Christians to know that we are not cultivating for the flesh (the part that will know the entropy of death), but for the spirit (that unique part of man created in the image of God that can be cultivated to stave off entropy, note:

1 Corinthians 15:42-49So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. 43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. 44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. 48 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. 49 And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.”

Even in spiritual life there is order and authority. Why then do we think that we can come to God, create terms, and think that we can force Him to acknowledge them; instead of the other way around???

The fact of the matter is that God’s authority and order have been appointed by Him and we “do well to heed”2 Peter 1:19.

Christ Jesus the Lord has been given Authority –

After the resurrection of Jesus, he appeared to His chosen disciples (soon to be Apostles – as ones sent) many times during the forty days prior to his ascension to the Father (Acts 1:3). He would appear to them in Jerusalem and in Galilee. It was during an appearance on a pre-determined mountain in Galilee that He would appear to them and say this; note:

Matthew 28:18-20And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”

Two very important points are established here. First is that God gave Him all authority. This authority given Him, Paul tells us, would last throughout the duration of His kingdom; note:

1 Corinthians 15:24-28Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 27 For “He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him,it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. 28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.”

Second, this authority would give Christ Jesus preeminence in legislating to men the needs to come to God!

John 14:6Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

2 John 1:9Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.”

He has been given judicial authority!

Mark 16:15-16And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

Acts 17:31because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”

In addition, God has given Him administrative authority!

Ephesians 1:22-23And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”

Colossians 1:18 “And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.”

Christ’s authority was not divided up, rendered to men, or in need of our input for improvement! It was given to Him for our good, to complete us in every good work (as determined by Him). In many cases, the denominational world speaks well of the grace of God in Christ Jesus, but they deny, in many ways, it purpose, order, and authority, note:

Titus 2:11-15 “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

15 Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.”

To establish order in the Body of Christ, we must first find the Chief Corner stone and build solely on that; note:

1 Corinthians 3:11For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

Ephesians 2:19-22Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.”
