John 1:4 "In Him was life, and the life was the light of men."

John 8:32 "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

“Desire + Expectation = Hope!”

The quality of hope is that it is oriented to something in the future that one expects but is not yet in possession of!

Yet, in life there are those with hope and those without hope. Why is this? Is hope something that is only present in a godly man?

Hope, in and of itself is not just a religious principle (much like faith). Every person is born with desire. Many of the desires we are born with have fulfillment in the things around us. For example: When we experience hunger, we seek out food. When we desire warmth, we seek out clothing or fire. This is a basic foundation of hope.

We can continue to see basics of hope in all of us, defined by the expectations that many of us who work for a living, expect to receive a pay-check. Some of us hope to receive a raise in pay for our efforts. Even more, we hope to retire someday and be able to sustain ourselves. These basic desires define our base nature and unify every single person to a unified understanding.

“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer” Albert Camus (A famous French Journalist).

“The human body experiences a powerful gravitational pull in the direction of hope. That is why the patient’s hopes are the physician’s secret weapon. They are hidden ingredients in any prescription” Norman Cousins (A famous American Journalist).

Universally, we can easily recognize this common drive.

Yet, if we find in ourselves another desire which no experience in this life can satisfy; can that, in and of itself, explain that we were created for another existence? There are many of us who willingly recognize this unique desire, which cannot be satisfied in this life.

Why then, do so many deny this hope? Especially in the same way they deny God, faith in God, etc… The easy answer is that they have hope, just a false hope! Satan has deceived them into thinking that the desires they have can only be satisfied in the flesh, in things, wealth, etc…

Sadly, they then deny the desire in us that cannot be satisfied in the flesh, thus denying their very nature as the creation of God. This is a statement of fact in God’s revelation, note:

1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”

What a sad existence to only desire to have that which is passing away! Yet, many an individual does just that!

What we need to Know –

There is a source that answers the burning desire in us that cannot be found in this world.

If the source of this hope cannot be found in the earthly, it can only exist in that which comes to us from an un-earthly point of origin. It states of itself that it has been breathed from God Himself (the very definition of inspiration – revelation from a Divine source).

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

God’s word speaks of hope in a singular sense; in the way it speaks of just one God. It states emphatically that all who respond to the revelation of this hope are called in this singular hope (Ephesians 4:4).

This singular hope is predicated on immutability.

Immutability simply means that which is not subject or susceptible to change. This is what sets this singular hope apart from the hopes of this world. Many of us have experienced injustice in this life by the lying of others who have destroyed our earthly hopes; likewise many are having their spiritual hope taken away by the same method. The source of this single hope has demonstrated in His character something different, note:

Titus 1:1-3 Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness, 2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, 3 but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior”

Hebrews 6:17-19 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, 18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.

19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil”

This creates for those who learn to trust God; Who is the Father of hope, the Biblical definition of our hope.

The God of hope has demonstrated through the offering of Himself in the flesh, the burning desire to save us from ourselves. This is the heart of the Gospel of Christ’s message that is to be preached to the world.

Mark 16:15-16 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”

It is in this trust that we not only DESIRE, but we EXPECT to receive the promises of God. Because of this, we diligently seek the righteousness He has revealed to those who singularly seek the promises of God, knowing that He who promised is faithful.

1 Timothy 4:10 For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.”

Knowing that all men in this life are going to know suffering, pain, illness, and finally death (the process of entropy); should we not strongly desire to be one among these who have true hope???

This only scratches the surface of the hope spoken of by God. Come and learn with us – all that God has revealed concerning life and godliness in order to know the divine nature and the ability to escape “The corruption that is in the world through lust”2 Peter 1:3-4. To have an entrance supplied to you abundantly in the “Everlasting kingdom” of Christ – 2 Peter 1:11.

DESIRE by revelation + EXPECTATION by trust in God = ONE TRUE HOPE!

See! You would finally find a purpose for the Algebra you had to take in school!
