“Satan’s Strategic Plan!”

Genesis 3:1-7 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’”

4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.”

The Apostle Paul writing his second letter to the church at Corinth, would refer to this opening passage of scripture. The New Testament writers do not consider the Old Testament record as myth, allegory, or fiction, but a true story of revelation.

Paul wrote the first letter to the Corinthians from Ephesus and wrote it as a stern disciplinarian, chastising them for their departure from the truth. He sent the letter by Titus and expected him to return to Ephesus and report. As time went by, Titus had not yet returned and Paul became concerned. Paul was forced to leave Ephesus before Titus could return (Acts 19:21-41), so he went to Troas; still no Titus. Paul is now worried that sending Titus with such a strict letter of rebuke and correction may have been a death sentence for his son in the faith (2 Corinthians 2:12-13). Finally, Titus would rendezvous with Paul in Macedonia; Paul’s relief was great and he would be filled with joy for Titus’ report that his letter was received and for the most part the brethren would repent (2 Corinthians 7:5-12).

However, Paul still had enemies in Corinth! False teachers still attempted to mislead the brethren and there were even those who claimed falsely to be Apostles (2 Corinthians 11:12-13). So, in Chapters 10-13, are Paul’s remarks to his enemies. These enemies are handling the word of God as dishonest tradesmen, bringing in a different Gospel, and Paul would recognize them as doing Satan’s work. Satan works through his deceitful word, institutions, and appointments to accomplish his corruption.

Paul thinks that it is folly that he should have to address the Corinthians about these false teachers; however, Paul is afraid that by the same wiles as Satan used in the Garden of God, the faithful brethren in Corinth might tolerate the false teaching and be led astray. Satan’s work may even have a form of godliness making it easier to accept.

2 Timothy 3:5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”

Text:

2 Corinthians 11:1-4 Oh, that you would bear with me in a little folly—and indeed you do bear with me. 2 For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!”

We can easily discern from this passage that every word of reproach or disparagement against Christ, His church, and the word of His Gospel is the work of Satan. Just as Satan entered the Garden of God and turned Eve against her God. Paul says that Satan is at work among them in the same fashion. Paul reveals in this passage, Satan’s strategic plan!

Satan Always Attempts to Make Us Doubt God’s Word!

The doubt Satan attempts to insert into those who trust God’s word is that of accuracy, meaning, authenticity, history, etc… This is what Satan established first in the Garden of God, “Has God indeed said, “You shall not eat of every tree of the Garden?” Genesis 3:1.

The question was asked to establish doubt and to undermine what God had already established in simplicity and that they were content thus far to obey!

Paul was worried that the false teachers in Corinth were attempting to do the same thing in challenging his Gospel and authority as an Apostle of Jesus Christ and that which up to now they had been content in obeying; “Your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ” (11:3).

Many today are told to just believe in God and His Son (a corruption of the righteousness of God). These never attempt to know the righteousness of the Gospel that was delivered by the servants of Christ for the benefit of those who would hear and obey!

Romans 6:17-18 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.”

Satan Always Confronts the Doubter with the Need to Deny God’s Word!

In the Garden of God, all Satan did was add in a single word to what God had said, “And the serpent said to the woman, “You shall not surely die” Genesis 3:4.

Those in Corinth were also facing clever attacks against the Gospel that had been delivered to them and the need to obey it as it had been given.

“For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!”

Satan challenges the capability, authority, or even God’s resolve to carry out His word!

Satan Then Debases the Righteousness and Holiness of God!

Genesis 3:5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.””

If one embraces the concept of God’s word as fallible, it is then easy to project that towards God Himself! Paul had betrothed the Corinthians to one husband; the perversion of the other suitors might be put up with, causing them to commit adultery.

Satan wants you to look to your own devices instead of trusting God, God’s love manifested in His Son, and His word that guides us; but remember the words of Solomon:

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.”

Remember the simplicity of the Gospel and the Gospel alone!

Hebrews 5:8-9 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him”
