I Am Resolved No Longer to Linger!!!

This is a statement from a song that we often sing; and as I was contemplating the New Year and the resolutions people will attempt to make, I had a thought that I felt worth sharing.

Rather than make a resolution (which with most folks is a flash-in-the-pan practice); instead, simply recognize the dangers of procrastination!

This has application in every aspect of our lives; spiritual, and physical. Procrastination (To put off doing something, especially out of habitual carelessness or laziness.) has always been the enemy of the growth of the Body of Christ (Ephesians 4:16), as well as the spread of the Gospel of Jesus the Christ (Mark 16:15-16).

A couple of weeks ago, in sharing the Lord’s instruction in the Sermon on the Mount, we covered this familiar passage:

Matthew 6:19-21Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.””

As we contemplated the “Excellent Choices” that the Lord educates us to make, there were three primary treasures to consider to help us put away procrastination:

·        Each of us should treasure the significance of our lives! Ecclesiastes 12:13-14; John 3:16; Romans 8:12-17

·        Each of us should treasure the time of our lives! Ephesians 5:15-17

·        Each of us should treasure the possibilities for greatness in this life (not of ourselves, but through the provisions from God) – John 8:31-32; Romans 8:37; Philippians 1:9-11; 4:8-9.

Provided that we can clearly see and understand our purpose here (treasure the significance of our lives); we note that the most valuable time in our lives is RIGHT NOW (treasure the time of our lives)! We can then adequately know that God has provided all we need for life and godliness – 2 Peter 1:3 (treasure the possibilities for greatness in this life).

For this New Year, simply determine to put off doing any and everything that prevents us from seeking first the Kingdom of God; especially out of habitual carelessness or laziness – RIGHT NOW!!!

Have a great New Year; as the Lord wills – James 4:15
